Located in Troy, Alabama, Troy University is a public university. The flagship institution of the Troy University System, it was first established in 1887 as Troy State Normal School inside the Alabama State University System. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) has granted Troy University accreditation to grant associate, bachelor, master's, education specialist, and doctorate degrees. Troy University was formed in August 2005 as a result of the merger of Troy State University, Montgomery, Troy State University, Phenix City, Troy State University, Dothan, and Troy State University (main campus) under a single accreditation. Each campus was individually accredited prior to the merger. The merger created a single institution with a staff, professors, and administration.
