ABOUT MORGAN STATE UNIVERSITY

Morgan State University, also known simply as MSU, is a historically black college or university located in Baltimore, Maryland. It is a public research university. It is the largest historically black college or university in the state of Maryland. The university, which at the time was known as the Centenary Biblical Institute, changed its name to Morgan College in 1867 in order to honour Reverend Lyttleton Morgan, who had served as the first chairman of the board of trustees of the university and had donated land to the institution. In 1975, it was granted university status. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund includes Morgan State University among its affiliated institutions. Morgan State University is a public university, but it is not affiliated with the University System of Maryland in any way. It is categorised as an R2 university, which stands for "Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity.
