ABOUT ILLINOIS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Located in Chicago, Illinois, the Illinois Institute of Technology, also known as Illinois Tech, is a private research institution. The current name was chosen in 1940, following the amalgamation of the Armour Institute and the Lewis Institute. The institution's origins can be traced back to the year 1890. Architecture, business, communications, design, engineering, industrial technology, information technology, law, psychology, and science are some of the areas of study that can be pursued at this educational institution. It is categorised as an R2 university, which stands for "Doctoral Universities - High Research Activity." The university may trace its historical roots back to a number of American institutes of engineering and professional education that were founded in the 19th century. Through the efforts of its Dean of Architecture Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who was also responsible for designing the university's campus, the institution became intimately connected with modernist architectural movements in the middle of the 20th century. Additionally, the Midwest College of Engineering, the Chicago-Kent College of Law, and the Institute of Design all became a part of Illinois Tech after the school's consolidation.
