ABOUT ST. JOHN'S UNIVERSITY
St. John's University is a Roman Catholic, private, higher education institution located in the borough of Queens in the city of New York. It was established in 1870 by the Congregation of the Mission (also known as the Vincentian Fathers), with the primary goal of providing a burgeoning immigrant population with access to high-caliber educational opportunities. During the 1950s, the flagship campus was relocated from its previous location in the Brooklyn district of New York City to its current position in the Queens borough of that same city. The Long Island Graduate Center is located in Hauppauge, New York, while St. John's University also maintains campuses in Staten Island and Manhattan, all located within the city of New York. In addition, the institution maintains foreign campuses in the cities of Paris, France, Rome, Italy, and Limerick, Ireland. The church of Saint John the Baptist provides financial support to the university. More than one hundred bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programmes, in addition to professional certificate offerings, are distributed across St. John's University's five undergraduate schools and six graduate schools, respectively. The university had 17,088 students enrolled in the undergraduate programme and 4,633 students enrolled in the graduate programme in 2019. The student body comes from 119 different nations and 46 different states, including the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than 190,000 people across the globe will have graduated from St. John's by the year 2020.
