The Institution of Wisconsin–Madison (often known as UW, UW–Madison, or just Madison) is a public land-grant research university located in Madison, Wisconsin. In 2021, 33,506 undergraduate, 9,772 graduate, 1,968 special, and 2,686 professional students were enrolled at UW–Madison, which is structured into 20 schools and colleges. There are 136 undergraduate majors, 148 master's degree programmes, and 120 doctoral degree programmes available. With over 24,232 academics and staff, the institution is the largest employer in Wisconsin, contributing significantly to the state's economy. Wisconsin is one of the Association of American Universities' twelve founding members, a select group of prominent North American research universities.
