ABOUT BRITISH COLUMBIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
The British Columbia Institute of Technology is a public polytechnic institute that is located in Burnaby, British Columbia. It is commonly known by its acronym, BCIT. The area surrounding Metro Vancouver is home to all five of the campuses that make up the technical institute, with the institution's primary location being in Burnaby, which is located in the province of British Columbia, Canada. In addition, there is the Marine Campus in the City of North Vancouver, the Downtown campus in Vancouver, and the Annacis Island Campus in Delta. All of these campuses are located in the municipality of Richmond. It has been granted a charter by the provincial government under the provisions of the College and Institute Act. The institution functions as a vocational and technical school, and it provides apprenticeships for skilled trades as well as diplomas and degrees in vocational education for skilled technicians and workers in professions such as engineering, accountancy, business administration, broadcast/media communications, digital arts, nursing, computing, medicine, architecture, and law. These are just some of the areas of expertise that can be gained through these programmes. The British Columbia Institute of Technology was initially formed in 1960 as the British Columbia Vocational School. In 1964, when the Burnaby campus of BCIT first opened its doors, there were 498 students enrolled there. As of the end of the 2017 academic year, there were a total of 30,593 part-time students and 18,755 full-time students enrolled. Since it was established, the educational establishment has graduated more than 125,000 students.
