West Bengal launches centralized UG admission portal to increase transparency and check seat wastage

West Bengal has introduced a unified undergraduate admission platform to simplify the application procedure, enhance clarity, and minimize the number of vacant seats in government-operated colleges. This updated platform enables students to submit applications for up to 25 programs through a single site, making the application process quicker and more user-friendly. The program, unveiled by Education Minister Bratya Basu, seeks to address the problems encountered in the past with unclear admission methods, ensuring a fair distribution of seats. The platform will create a clear ranking of candidates, allowing students to secure a seat at one time and to have the chance to switch to another if there are openings.
The platform, however, will not include top-tier universities such as Presidency University, Jadavpur University, and certain autonomous and minority colleges. It will be overseen by the state's Higher Education Council and will provide additional assistance features, including a support hotline and instructional videos for applicants. Applications for undergraduate programs will open on June 24 and close on July 7, with the initial ranking of candidates announced on July 12 and the start of classes scheduled for August 7. This move represents a major advancement in the modernization of the admission process for higher education in the state.
