US international student numbers reach all-time high:
The United States has experienced an extraordinary rise in the number of international students for the 2023-2024 academic year, as indicated by the Open Doors 2024 Report on International Educational Exchange. The total enrollment of international students in colleges and universities across the U.S. has reached a record high of 1,126,690, which shows a 7% increase compared to the previous year. This growth in international student enrollment comes after a slight decline during the pandemic. The recovery has been notably strong, with India surpassing China as the top country of origin for international students in the U.S. for the first time in 14 years. The number of Indian students enrolled in U.S. institutions has almost doubled since the pandemic began.
Graduate students constitute the largest group of international enrollments, with an all-time high of 502,291 students pursuing advanced degrees in the U.S. This reflects a 7.6% increase from the previous year. The influx of international students has a significant positive impact on the U.S. economy, providing around $50 billion in revenue through tuition and living expenses.
