College Campus Events Make a Comeback as Employers Rethink Recruitment
Why Employers Are Turning Back to College Campus Events
College Campus Events Make a Comeback as Employers Rethink Recruitment
College campus events are regaining popularity as employers mix up their recruitment strategies, with a hybrid approach being adopted. Christine Cruzvergara, career expert and chief education strategy officer at Handshake, explains that recruiters are trying to fine-tune the right mix for their organization for the types of roles they are recruiting for. In-person events on college campuses have been in demand, especially at historically Black colleges and universities. While students are comfortable with living in an online world, many crave an in-person experience, according to Julia Toothacre, chief career strategist at Resume Templates. To boost their chances of having successful in-person events, recruiters should identify students they want to speak to in advance, such as a particular major, student organization participant, or skill set. They should then reach out to these students before the event, sending a personalized message asking to meet them there. When they come in person, recruiters should be ready to discuss the company's stability and benefits, particularly any student loan repayment benefits offered by the employer. After the event, recruiters should follow up within 24 to 48 hours to let the students know they were interested in talking to them.
