UK Universities See Increased Interest After Election Results
Studyportals sees post-election traffic surge for UK institutions
The company observed a significant increase in interest from prospective students in UK universities following the Labour Party's victory in the UK's general election. The share of global interest in UK universities rose from 15.6% on the day of the election to 19% the day after Labour's win. This surge is attributed to the Labour Party's less anti-immigration stance than the previous Conservative government. Despite the Labour manifesto being light on details, the change in government has brought a sense of optimism for international students. Notably, there was a 128% increase in demand from the US and a 46% increase from India post-election. The incoming Labour government's evidence-based approach is expected to require better data and evidence from the sector to support international student opportunities.
The Labour Party's less anti-immigration stance than the previous Conservative government is highlighted as a critical factor. This suggests that international students are drawn to the Labour Party's more welcoming approach to immigration, which is perceived as more favorable for their prospects in the UK.
