NZ: New work visa benefits for partners of Green List students

New Zealand has updated its immigration policy to benefit spouses of international students studying in Green List occupations. Partners of students pursuing level 7 or 8 qualifications can now apply for an open work visa. The Green List includes high-demand occupations like nursing, teaching, and dentistry. Additionally, eligible partners' school-aged children can be treated as domestic students, exempt from tuition fees. Immigration New Zealand aims to balance facilitating entry with protecting the country. The Green List was introduced in 2022 to address skill shortages. Despite other countries imposing restrictions, New Zealand's Education New Zealand reported 69,000 international student enrollments in 2023. A survey found that 75% of New Zealanders believe international students benefit the country, citing economic and cultural contributions.
