Mission Bay Hub: Pioneering STEM Education for SF High Schoolers
San Francisco's Thurgood Marshall Academic High School students, Ruier Fang and Princess Canlas, have gained valuable insights into their future careers through the Mission Bay Hub, a specialized STEM program launched in the 2023-24 school year. The program, aimed at 11th and 12th graders, offers hands-on learning experiences in health and life sciences, exposing students to real-world applications and professional scientists, thereby enhancing their understanding and motivation to pursue STEM careers.
The Mission Bay Hub, located on the University of California, San Francisco campus, provides work-based learning experiences in fields like biochemistry and neuroscience, helping students like Ruier, who now plans to study chemical biology at UC Berkeley, and Princess, who is interested in radiology. The program is part of a broader national effort to boost STEM education and career readiness, supported by significant investments from the Biden administration and various organizations.
