Breaking Barriers: Refugee Students Head to College with Duolingo
Duolingo’s third year of refugee scholars selected
Duolingo has revealed its decision to include its third group of refugee scholars in its program, which aims to assist those who have been displaced in pursuing higher education. This effort is a key part of Duolingo's larger goal to enhance educational opportunities for refugees across the globe. The program, named the Duolingo University Access Program, collaborates with the UNHCR to assist refugees in applying to colleges. During its inaugural year, the program received 115 applications, with 25 students being chosen. These students are provided with extensive support, including advice on college applications, financial assistance, guidance through the visa process, and help with covering extra expenses such as travel and living costs.
The selection of students this year is a testament to Duolingo's dedication to overcoming obstacles to education for refugees, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to excel in their educational endeavors.
