Indian Medical Graduates to Practice in Philippines: New Policy Update
New policies may allow Indian medical students to practice in the Philippines.
- Recent updates to the Philippine laws have greatly improved chances for Indian medical students. The Philippine authorities have made changes to the Philippine Medical Act of 1959, permitting Indian medical school graduates, who hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an institution recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and have completed a 12-month internship, to become registered and work as doctors in the Philippines. This update also meets the standards set by the Indian Medical Commission, allowing these graduates to work in India after they have finished their MD degrees.
- This change is a significant advantage for Indian students who are increasingly selecting the Philippines for their medical studies because of its high-quality, cost-effective programs and the fact that English is used as the primary language of instruction. The medical program in the Philippines, which meets US standards, also improves the global job opportunities for its graduates. Moreover, this update acknowledges the high quality of medical education in the Philippines and makes it easier for Indian graduates to integrate into the local healthcare system.
- The Philippines now has 64 approved medical schools, making this update not only more attractive for the country as a leading choice for medical education but also strengthens the academic relationship between India and the Philippines.
