New Visa Program Boosts India-Australia Ties: 1,000 Work and Holiday Visas for Indians
Australia has officially launched its new Work and Holiday visa program, offering up to 1,000 visas annually to Indian citizens starting from October 1, 2024. This program, which is part of the broader Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA), is designed to strengthen cultural and economic ties between the two countries. It allows young Indian adults aged 18 to 30 to live, work, study, and travel in Australia for up to 12 months, fostering deeper connections between the people of India and Australia.
Eligible applicants must meet several key criteria, including holding a valid passport, meeting educational qualifications, proving financial stability, and possibly demonstrating English language proficiency, depending on individual circumstances. The application process will be managed through a ballot system, ensuring a fair distribution of the visas due to anticipated high demand.
This visa initiative is expected to enhance bilateral relations by improving labor mobility, helping to address labor shortages in certain Australian sectors, and providing Indian citizens with opportunities for work and cultural exchange. Both countries hope that this program will pave the way for further collaboration and strengthen the already strong ties established through AI-ECTA
