IIT Madras launches free IT training program for college students
To narrow the divide between what academics teach and what the job market demands, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) in partnership with the IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation has introduced an affordable IT training course for recent college graduates. This project is designed to prepare students with the necessary technical abilities for roles in IT infrastructure and helpdesk support.
This three-month rigorous course, set to start in July 2024, will cover all the key areas of IT. The program will include lessons on the basics of networking, the fundamentals of cloud computing, ticketing systems, operating systems like Linux and Windows, the principles of storage and backup, and the development of soft skills.
This initiative welcomes recent college leavers (2023 and 2024) holding a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Biotechnology, and scoring a minimum aggregate of 60%. Although no financial support is provided, the initiative aims to prepare participants with the essential abilities to easily join IT support teams in small to medium-sized companies. To help participants find employment, the initiative will offer job placement support via practice interviews and networking efforts with the industry.
