Georgia's Medical Programs Gain Popularity Among Indian Students
Georgia has become a prominent destination for medical education, attracting many Indian students due to its strategic location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, rich cultural heritage, and renowned hospitality. The country's top-class universities and advanced teaching methods have made it a popular choice. The medical courses offered are recognized by both the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the World Health Organization (WHO). To facilitate direct communication between Indian students and Georgian universities, the Embassy of Georgia has initiated multi-city Education Fairs in India, with the latest fair held in December 2022 in New Delhi, and plans for more in 2023.
The undergraduate medical (MD) program in Georgia for Indian students lasts six years, including an internship in the final year. Clinical rotations begin in the fourth year, with extensive hands-on experience provided in university hospitals and teaching clinics. Indian students have equal opportunities to practice in clinical settings as their Georgian counterparts. They are allowed to perform medical procedures on patients under supervision, and Georgian universities offer Georgian language courses to help international students communicate effectively. Upon graduation, Indian MD students can work as junior doctors or pursue a residency program to obtain a license for independent medical practice in Georgia.
