National Rally's Policies: A Risk to French Academic Freedom
French universities under “threat” from National Rally, academics warn
The National Rally's (RN) electoral success in France has raised concerns among higher education institutions about the potential impact of the party's policies on international students and academic freedom. France Universitiés and other organizations fear that the RN's nationalist agenda could compromise the reception of international students, threaten the independence of higher education, and undermine the autonomy of academic research. The party's Eurosceptic views could also jeopardize France's participation in the Erasmus+ program, affecting student mobility. Political leaders are calling for tactical voting to block the RN from winning an outright majority, aiming to prevent the implementation of policies that could isolate France from the European academic community and undermine the values of the Republic.
