DTU launches MTech by Research to boost multidisciplinarity in engineering
Delhi Technological University (DTU) has introduced a new Master of Technology (MTech) by Research program, with the goal of fostering a more cooperative and interdisciplinary approach to engineering research. This initiative, in line with India's New Education Policy (NEP 2020), is tailored for students interested in pursuing advanced research opportunities and careers in research and development (R&D) within specific engineering areas. The distinctive feature of the MTech by Research program is that 75% of the coursework is dedicated to research projects, while the remaining 25% is dedicated to fundamental engineering courses and optional subjects, enabling students to customize their education to match their research interests.
"This program aims to connect traditional engineering fields and create an environment conducive to interdisciplinary research," Rinku Sharma, the Dean (Academics) at DTU, explains. It promotes collaboration across different departments, providing students with comprehensive training in research methodologies and support. This effort by DTU represents a major move towards meeting the objectives outlined in the NEP 2020, which highlights the need for a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to education. The MTech by Research program prepares students with the essential skills and knowledge to address complex engineering problems in today's globally connected society.
