Drake University to cut 3 academic programs as it tries to balance budget:
In April 2024, Drake University decided to close three academic programs due to budget cuts. The programs that were closed were:
1. Religion major
2. East Asian studies minor
3. Evidence-Based Healthcare graduate certificate.
The decision to close three of the university’s academic programs was made after a faculty senate and Board of Trustee review process. Some of the programs were initially proposed for cuts but were saved due to reduced enrollment numbers. Drake University is currently working with 14 students enrolled in the three programs to ensure that they can continue to complete their degrees and certificates.
