CBSE Allows Students of Basic Math To Opt For Standard Math In Class 11

CBSE has made it possible for students who have opted for Basic Math in Class 10 to switch to Standard Math in Class 11 for the 2024-25 academic year. However, this is a one-off and only applicable to Class 11 this year.
In the past, students who opted for Basic Math in class 10 were limited to Applied Math in class 11 and were unable to take up Standard Math which is a requirement for certain higher education courses. Now, CBSE has opened the door for Standard Math to be taken up in Class 11. However, there is a condition that needs to be met by the school in order for the students to be able to take up Standard Math. The condition is that the school needs to prove that the students have the aptitude and capability to take up the more rigorous standard math curriculum.
The flexibility mentioned above is only applicable for 2024-25. From 2025-26, students in Class 10 will likely have to make a difficult choice between Basic Math or Standard Math, as switching may not be possible. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recommends students in Class 10 in 2024-25 to select their subjects carefully during the finalization process of the list of candidates (LOC), as changes may not be allowed at a later date.
