Birmingham-Southern to shutter May 31
Birmingham Southern College, in Alabama, is all set to cease operations from May 31st. The college is said to be facing financial problems for over a year now.
⦁ A campaign of $37.5 million which took place for about a year and a half, failed to get secured in federal, state, country, and city aid as announced by officials.
⦁ Efforts were made again and the college was given a second chance to secure a $30 million loan, but the State treasurer denied the loan and this resulted in the final collapse of the college finances.
⦁ As per reports, the college has been facing financial troubles for over a decade now. The college avoided a mid-year closure after securing funding of $ 7.5 million from the city of Birmingham.
⦁ The economically struggling college marks the end of a 168-year legacy in the field of fine arts. Though multiple efforts were made to bring the college out of financial constraints, still the situation continued worsening day after day, and the college had to announce closure.
