Australia: voters view int’l students as drivers of economy
A recent study shows that people in Australia are starting to see the big economic benefits that international students bring. About 61% of those surveyed think these students are major contributors to the economy, and 68% recognize them as crucial in filling the country's need for skilled workers. This study, which gathered responses from more than 1,500 voters in electorates with high numbers of international students, points to a deep public gratitude for the industry.
The financial influence of international students in Australia is significant. By 2023, the industry was worth nearly AUD 50 billion, creating jobs for about 250,000 people. Moreover, international students played a key role in driving Australia's GDP growth in the previous year. However, the Australian government is thinking about putting limits on the number of international students allowed to study here, a decision that might cut the industry's value by AUD 4.3 billion and lead to the loss of over 14,000 jobs.
