Why International Students Are Choosing Australia in Record Numbers
Australia’s resounding endorsement from international students
At The PIE Live Asia Pacific 2024, international students shared their experiences with educators, policy-makers, and senior leaders. Chenai, from Zimbabwe, praised Torrens University for its mental health support, contrasting it with the limited access in her home country. A Chinese student at Bond University, Dina appreciated the weekly check-ins and free counseling. Rachel, a Griffith University student, highlighted the peer support group Griffith Mates, which offers social events and an airport pick-up service for international students. Barsha, from Nepal, discussed her journey at Southern Cross University, including her initial struggles to find work in her field. Students also discussed the rise in visa fees from AUD$710 to AUD$1,600, with some viewing it as an investment in their future. Chenai addressed the misconception that international students are solely responsible for housing issues, emphasizing the complexity of the problem.
