IIT Kanpur's artificial heart set to redefine affordability in healthcare

IIT Kanpur develops a groundbreaking titanium artificial heart, engineered from titanium, this innovative artificial heart, known technically as the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), offers a crucial lifeline for individuals with heart failure.
IIT Kanpur is pioneering the development of an affordable artificial heart made from titanium, known in technical terms as the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD). This device is designed to assist individuals whose hearts are unable to pump blood effectively.

The artificial heart, named Hridayantr, will undergo its initial trials in goats before human testing. Professor Manindra Agarwal, Director of IIT Kanpur, has confirmed that animal trials are imminent. Initially planned for implantation in pigs, extensive research has led to the decision to use goats for these preliminary tests. This innovative project is being developed with the collaboration of students and the guidance of esteemed professors at the institute.
