Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an english proficiency standardized examination for non-native speakers who want to secure admission to Universities with English as the language of instruction. TOEFL is accepted in most major colleges and universities. Previously it was a 3 and a half hour exam which is now reduced to 3 hours with a compulsory 10 minutes break. There are two types of TOEFL PBT(Paper-Based Test) and IBT(Internet-Based Test). Generally, students prefer IBT. PBT is a provision made for students where internet connectivity is limited or restricted.
The English speakers or test-takers in this case are of 2 types viz. Native and Non-native. Native speakers have a high level of language efficiency since childhood as in most cases it is the first language taught to them as a child. A non-native speaker is one who has learned the language as an addition to a native language and holds a basic to medium level of efficiency in speaking.
