- They offer a number of ‘open’ degree programs such as the Bachelor of Arts (GY101), which allows students to study a wide range of subjects across the humanities and social sciences in their first year before specializing at a later stage. - The duration of undergraduate degree programs varies by discipline, but most degrees are four years in duration. Some Arts and Business programmes can be completed in three years while Medicine is normally a six-year programme.
- NUI Galway offers a number of unique undergraduate degree programs in Ireland, including those in Marine Science, Human Rights, Theater and Performance, and Sports and Exercise Engineering.

- NUI Galway has encouraged and facilitated the admission of mature students to its programs over many years. The University has approved a Mature Student Scholarship Scheme to support and facilitate the entry of mature students to its Full Time Undergraduate Degree programs. The University will award 30 such scholarships to mature students entering a full-time undergraduate degree program. The Scholarship will be awarded for the first year of the degree program.
