UC INTERNATIONAL FIRST YEAR SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to deserving international students beginning a bachelor's degree programme at the University of Canterbury, the UC International First Year Scholarship is a one-year scholarship.
- The University of Canterbury has bestowed this honor on you.
- Available to students enrolled in any of the university's undergraduate degree programmes.
- The award is open to all worldwide applicants who meet the eligibility requirements.
- The amount varies between 10,000 NZD and 20,000 NZD.
- It is necessary to submit a separate scholarship application.
- Every year, a total of 25 scholarships are given out to deserving students.
The scholarship amount is only available for one year at the University of Canterbury, and it is not renewable. Academic excellence, extracurricular activity, financial circumstances of the candidate, and other factors are taken into consideration when awarding the UC International First Year Scholarship.
#ELIGIBILITY
The University of Canterbury strives to recognise and reward exceptional overseas students who are beginning their undergraduate degree at the University of Canterbury and who demonstrate academic and social excellence. The applicant is as follows:
- You must be a full-time international student who is paying all of your fees.
- Currently enrolled full-time in the first year of a degree programme
- Applicants for undergraduate admission to the University of Canterbury are required to meet the entry-level qualification.
- Before applying for the scholarship, you must have completed your university's admissions forms.
Additionally, the following applicants are ineligible for the UC International First Year Scholarship: Applicants from the following countries:
- Citizens of Australia or New Zealand are eligible to participate.
- Permanent Residents of the country of Australia
- Visas for students who are studying in New Zealand under the New Zealand resident class
In order to be eligible for the programme, international transfer students from any tertiary institution in New Zealand must be residents of the country.
#APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants for the UC International First Year Scholarship must submit a separate scholarship application, which may be found on the university's website, in order to be considered. The application period is open for 8 weeks prior to the deadline for submission of the scholarship application.
- In order to be considered for admission to the University of Canterbury, applicants must first submit their applications.
- Applicants have to complete an online scholarship application form before being considered.

#SELECTION PROCESS
Scholarships are offered to a maximum of 25 students every academic year. The scholarship is awarded by the University Council, on the proposal of the selection committee, and is funded by the University. The members of the committee are mentioned below:
- Vice-Chancellor
- Director of Student Services and Communication
- Member of the university staff.
The beneficiaries of the scholarship, as well as the amount of scholarship to be awarded to each candidate, are determined by the following criteria:
- academic achievements
- character, leadership potential, extracurricular and community activity interests
- financial circumstances
- strategic objectives of the university
If there are fewer scholarship applicants than there are scholarships available, fewer awards are issued in a given calendar year

#GRANT DETAILS
The University of Canterbury's UC Overseas First Year Scholarship, which was established in 2012, honors and assists international students who have achieved high academic standing and are beginning their undergraduate degree programme at the University of Canterbury.
A scholarship of between 10,000 NZD and 20,000 NZD is offered to students who meet the eligibility requirements. Amounts are credited to the recipient's tuition and fees account at the time of enrolling.
#Terms and Conditions
- The scholarship is only available for one year and can only be used once.
- If the scholarship winner does not accept the letter of offer within one calendar month, the scholarship will immediately expire, with the exception of exceptional circumstances.
- The institution reserves the right to publicize and proclaim the names of those who have accepted the award if they do so in good faith.
- Recipients are required to participate in university community activities such as student mentorship, serving as university ambassadors, and being involved in university publicity campaigns, among other things.
- Students who withdraw from the programme after accepting a scholarship have their scholarships annulled, and any funds already awarded may be retrieved from the student who has withdrawn from the programme.
- The continuation of any scholarship is contingent on the student's academic achievement and overall behavior as outlined in the scholarship agreement.
- At the undergraduate and graduate levels, the University of Canterbury offers a number of other international scholarships to students wishing to study in the United States. Some of the additional scholarships available at the institution are the UC College of Engineering International Scholarship (15,000 NZD), Eamon Molloy Memorial Scholarship (up to 15,000 NZD), Alison MacGibbon Fund, and the Eamon Molloy Memorial Scholarship (300 NZD).
