Sir Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarship
The National University of Ireland offers two full-fee waivers Sir Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarships to Indian students seeking admission to any of the university's postgraduate programs. The scholarship is named after Sir Peter Freyer, a well-known biomedical innovator who spent 20 years in the Indian Medical Service.
Applicants from India are eligible for the scholarship.
There are two Freyer Scholarships available.
The scholarship consists of a full fee waiver for all NUI academic postgraduate programs.
By April 30, 2020, applications for the Sir Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarship must be submitted.
These scholarships are not available to students applying to postgraduate research programs at the National University of Ireland.
#Eligibility
Applicants must have finished their undergraduate degree and be pursuing admission to a postgraduate taught degree at NUI with an exceptional academic record to be eligible for the Sir Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarship.
- Students who are only planning to enroll in a taught postgraduate program are eligible.
- Full-time programs are eligible for the awards.
- Applicants for the Freyer Scholarships must have completed the National University of Ireland application process and obtained an admission offer.
- The university requires an acceptance deposit.
#Application Process
Applicants must complete their applications for admission to the National University of Ireland and accept the admission offer by paying an acceptance deposit to be considered for one of the Sir Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarships.
Applicants must submit a Personal Statement to InternationalScholarships@nuigalway.ie after receiving NUI's admission offer.
ie. The personal statement must be no more than 1,000 words long and include information such as:
- The applicant's desire to study at NUI Galway in Ireland.
- Short and long-term future ambitions of the applicant, with NUI in mind
- What kind of contribution can the candidate offer to promoting NUI and its programs?

#Selection Proces
Academic merit plus a personal statement written by the candidate and provided separately after confirmation of admission to the particular program are the selection criteria for the Sir Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarship.
After determining that they are eligible for the scholarship, the selection committee shortlisted applicants who confirmed their acceptance to the National University of Ireland on a merit basis. If the selection committee requests it, a personal interview can be scheduled in person or over the phone.
Those who are chosen for the scholarship will be notified by email, and they must acknowledge receipt and affirm their intent to use the prize, otherwise, it will be reassigned to the next candidate in line. Applicants must notify the university if they do not receive a response from the university within 10 days.
#Grant Details
Indian applicants who apply for a postgraduate full-time taught program at the National University of Ireland, Galway are eligible for Peter Freyer Special Merit Scholarships. The applicant is automatically registered for consideration of this scholarship after accepting the offer but must prepare a personal statement of roughly 1000 words for the selection process.
For the first year, the scholarship provides a full tuition fee waiver.
#Terms and Conditions
- The scholarship is for the applicant's first year of tuition costs alone and is not renewable.
- The scholarship will only be awarded in the form of a fee waiver and will not be given in any other way.
- The university will reallocate the grant to the next selected candidate on the list if an applicant does not acknowledge receipt of the prize.
- It is not permissible to combine any other grant or scholarship, whether internal or external.
- The scholarship awardees must participate in the university's promotional initiatives aimed at internationalizing its courses and programs.
- The students who receive the prize must remain on campus as full-time students.
Applicants are encouraged to verify with the university when applying for admission to see if their course is qualified for the scholarships.
