Scholarships in Finland for International students

There is a large and growing international community in Finland. But the small country has few educational opportunities which many students find equal to none, forcing them to go abroad. Gradually, things are changing - educational scholarship programs for international students are being developed, but international scholarships are still very hard to come by.

There are a number of scholarships offered in Finland for international students looking to study. These scholarships can be used as a student’s main source of support in obtaining funding from the university and start applying as soon as they decide to attend a degree in Finland. Applicants just need to check their eligibility, see which scholarship they will fit into, and how long their unpaid internship will last before submitting the application. There are scholarships in Finland that you can use if you want to study abroad.

When deciding where you want to study and learn, one of the first things to consider is whether or not the country you will be living in offers language options as well as scholarships for international students. In Finland, two organizations that provide student scholarships are the Finnish National Commission for International Liaison (NTNU) and University of Helsinki's International Masters Programme Scholarships. Sweden also offers targeted scholarships designed specifically for international students. For some other countries, such as France or the United Kingdom, there may be long waiting lists. The federal and regional governments, as well as other sources, offer scholarships designed to help international students with foreign qualifications study in Finland. There are three main categories of the scholarship which all have different requirements depending on your nationality, year of studies and personal circumstances:

In order to be eligible to apply for a Finnish pre-exam application, applicants must prove that they have paid fees covering the costs of their academic studies in Finland. This sum can vary depending on the program and exam taken. Finnish language requirements are only very basic so it is often possible to enter the country in advance of a course of study by researching how it can be completed by streaming classes while still residing in Sweden or Ireland. To be eligible for a scholarship in Finland, the plan must have been completed in the current or previous year and have the aim to study at the University of Cambridge in England. Additionally, the student must not be Finnish citizen. The program will award academic merit scholarships only. Requirements to qualify vary among scholarship programs, so knowledge of those specifics is crucial when applying. Some scholarships will not consider anyone over a certain age, or there may be a residency requirement.
