MBBS in China

China is quickly becoming the most popular location for Indian students seeking to complete their medical degrees quickly. If you're wondering why Indian students choose to study medicine in China, here's some information for you: every Chinese medical university that accepts overseas students has course materials written in English. This isn't the only reason, though. Sure, English-medium education is probably one of the most important reasons why overseas students, particularly those from India, are increasingly choosing China as a professional destination, but there are others. Here's a blog that gives you an inside look at the MBBS program in China.

#Why Study MBBS in China?

  • Recognition on a Global Scale

Every year, the Chinese government publishes a list of approved medical universities that are permitted to accept international students for medical education. The medical universities on this list are also listed in the WHO (World Health Organization) medical school directory, which simply means that if you earn a medical degree from one of them, you'll be eligible to take medical screening tests in most countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and others. Students receive their graduation degree after successfully completing the 6-year medical degree program, which includes a one-year internship. You can then return to India and take the MCI screening test, after which you can practice medicine anywhere in India if you pass.

  • Medical Education at a Reasonable Cost

Another key reason why Indian students choose to do their MBBS in China is the low cost of medical education at any top Chinese medical university, which offers practically equal educational quality to top Indian medical colleges. Because of the high level of competition, only a few students out of thousands of applicants are accepted into medical school. Because becoming a doctor is the most respected profession in India, and the earning potential is immense. As a result, students and their parents are solely concerned with one thing: getting into a medical school.

However, as previously stated, admittance to a private medical college would cost you an arm and a leg, as well as your kidneys! You won't be able to locate a quality private medical college that will admit you to the MBBS program for less than 70 lakhs in total cost – many colleges would cost you nearly a crore for a 6-year MBBS program. China's MBBS program, with its high-quality medical education, comes into play here. In China, a 6-year medical degree study, equal to MBBS in India, can be completed for as little as 20 lakhs total (without living expenses in China of course).

  • Simple Admission Process

Due to intense competition, it is nearly impossible for an average student in India to gain admission to a government medical school. In China, however, getting into a prestigious university to pursue a medical degree is simple. No admission test is necessary; a score of 70% in PCBE in 12th grade and qualifying marks in NEET are sufficient to gain admission to the university of your choice.

When you examine the entrance requirements of medical schools in India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and other nations, you'll see that getting into a Chinese medical school is far easier. As a result, choosing MBBS in China will allow you to skip the long lines of students who are taking the NEET at the same time as you.

  • Low Criteria Requirement

Although Chinese medical schools do not have stringent entrance requirements, this does not imply a lack of excellent education. Medical universities that have been approved by the Chinese government, are listed in the WHO directory and are recognized by the MCI to provide a high-quality, global-standard medical education. MBBS in China is nearly identical to medical courses in top-tier Indian medical schools.

  • Teaching language- English

This is the most important factor for overseas students. Chinese universities are well aware of this. As a result, teachers who teach international students are well-versed in English and capable of instructing and communicating fluently in the language. Foreign teachers from English-speaking nations are commonly employed by universities. So, if you're terrified of pursuing an MBBS in China because you think you'll need to learn Mandarin to get in, you're mistaken.

  • Creative teaching methodology

Medical science is progressing at a rapid pace. Every country is actively investing in medical research and study. China is no exception. China is one of the few countries that devotes a substantial portion of its annual GDP to health and medicine. Every year, the Chinese government and corporations invest billions of dollars in the country. Chinese medical universities are evolving and establishing new and inventive medical education systems to keep up with this rapid advancement. MBBS students in Chinese universities are regularly exposed to the most recent medical innovations, research findings, and cutting-edge medical technology and equipment.

  • Living Costs are Low

Apart from the fact that studying medicine in China is about 70% cheaper than studying MBBS at any private medical school in India, the entire cost of living for an international student is remarkably low. Everything, from hostel or apartment rent to grocery prices, is comparable to that of any major Indian city, and in certain cases, even cheaper, depending on where you live in China. Of course, cities like Beijing or Shanghai are more expensive, but medical schools are typically located in areas where overseas students can afford to live.

#Top Universities

In China, not all universities, particularly medical universities, are the same. The education ministry of China grades Chinese medical universities as A, B, or C, depending on the level of education they provide. As a result, if one wants to study medicine in China, only A-rated universities should be considered. We've done the legwork for you and prepared a list of only the best medical schools in China:

  • Nanjing Medical University, or NMU: As it is more commonly known, was founded in 1934 and is one of China's premier medical universities. They provide 7 doctoral programs in first-level disciplines, 11 master's programs in first-level disciplines, and 6 postdoctoral research centers, all with excellent facilities and faculty. This medical university has 23 schools, 23 linked medical facilities and hospitals, and more than 50 teaching hospitals in China's major cities.

  • Capital Medical University: is a Beijing-based medical school that was founded in 1960. Capital Medical University's primary features include global-level medical education in an English-medium setting and a very high student-to-teacher ratio. It consists of ten lecture halls and one teaching hospital. A total of 14 hospitals are affiliated medical facilities with this university. It has six campuses spread over Beijing. The Capital Medical University is known for its contributions to Chinese medical research.

  • Jiangsu University: was founded in 2001 when three colleges merged to become Jiangsu University. It is located in the city of Zhenjiang. It is China's top institution in terms of the amount of English-medium courses it offers. Jiangsu University is one of China's top selections for international students, with over 2000 international students. This university is currently ranked among the top 200 Asian universities, top 200 BRICS universities, and top 1000 global universities, with 13 postdoctoral research centers and 14 doctoral degrees in the first-level subject.

  • China Medical University (PRC): A second "China Medical University" exists in Taiwan, and the two should not be confused. This medical university was founded in 1931 by the Chinese Communist Party. This college is located in Liaoning's Shenyang city. This university has been offering an English-language MBBS program to international students since 1978. China Medical University is ranked 345th in the world, 55th among Asian institutions, and 10th among Chinese universities, according to the global university rankings.

  • Medical School of Jilin University: It is a B+ rated medical university in China, with WHO and MCI approval. It was founded in 1946. This college is located in Changchun. This medical university has one of the largest pools of affiliated hospital beds in China, with 6000 patient beds.

#Tuition Fees

In China, an MBBS degree takes about 5 to 6 years to complete. A student will pay between 21,000 and 48,000 RMB each year for this. This amounts to about INR 2.4-5.6 lakhs each year. A 5-year degree costs between 12 and 28 lakhs, whereas a 6-year degree costs between 14.4 and 33.6 lakhs.

Documents Required

When applying for an MBBS degree in China, the following documents are required:

  • Documents from the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi
  • 10th and 12th mark sheets
  • Invitation letter from a University
  • Passport–size photographs
  • Notarized copy of the birth certificate
  • HIV test report
  • NEET Result
  • Passport

#Precautions To Be Taken

  • Only apply to A-grade universities

No matter how appealing it may seem, choosing a medical university only on the basis of the course fee is never a good idea. China's education ministry assigned grades to institutions depending on the quality of their education. As a result, lower-tier universities charge low rates to entice international students. You might think that all of the degrees offered by universities are the same. True, but only to a certain extent. A similar comparison may be employed when choosing a medical university in China. A BA degree from Patna University would never have the same weight as a BA degree from JNU. It's not just about the degree; it's also about the quality of the education, the quality of the faculty, the number of total English-speaking faculty, the number of foreign faculty, the number of international students, a student exchange program with prestigious foreign universities, research opportunities, patient exposure, and so on.

  • Choosing a bilingual course is never a good idea

Be wary of educational advisors who claim to be able to get you into English classes for a low charge. Don't get caught in that trap. In China, there are three types of MBBS: Chinese, Bilingual, and English. You clearly cannot enroll in a Chinese-medium medical program as a non-Chinese student. You have the option of enrolling in a Bilingual or a complete English-medium course. A full English-medium course, as the name implies, would be great for you because all course materials will be in English, as will all communication with lecturers.

Chinese colleges frequently hire professors from English-speaking nations solely to serve overseas students enrolled in a complete English-medium program. The "Bilingual" course, on the other hand, is taught half in English and the rest in Chinese. Because the teachers of bilingual courses are also not fluent in English, it will be difficult for you to converse with them if you enroll in a bilingual MBBS program. A bilingual course, on the other hand, costs less than a full English-medium course.

Entrance Test For MBBS in China

In China, there is a standardized admission examination for MBBS applicants. It was created so that universities in China may judge candidates for MBBS admission consistently. The test will be administered in the following format:

#There are four primary sections

  • Each segment is built on a foundation of basic medical knowledge.
  • Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics are the four sections.
  • Except for the Mathematics portion, which contains 25 questions at 50 points, each component includes 50 questions worth 100 points.
  • If a candidate wants to pursue an MBBS in China, they must take the standardized test.

#University Grade For MBBS in China

One of the advantages of studying medicine in China is that several colleges are accredited by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The WHO grades the MBBS universities in China, and the grades vary from A+, A, B+, B, C+, C. The cost of each grade university varies, and the cost normally reduces as the grade level falls. When compared to an A-grade university, the cost of an MBBS in China will be lower if you choose a B-grade university. However, you should only pursue an MBBS in China from A-Grade universities. They have an English curriculum and teachers who are fluent in the language. If you choose a C-grade university with an English medium, you may be assigned a teacher who is not fluent in English, and despite the low tuition, you will have problems with the medium of instruction.
