Does SAT have negative scoring? Is there penalty marking on the SAT?
- Negative marking is not applicable in SAT examinations.
- However, scoring a 0 is possible if none of the questions are answered or else all are answered incorrectly. This score is also called as Raw score.
- The raw score is then converted into a scaled score by a process known as Equating.
- So even if the correct option is not selected, there is no fear of losing scores due to that reason and one can always proceed with the nearest probable choice available.
- Even a blank guess can increase the chances of selecting the correct answer. Also, if a score is in decimal e.g., 51.5 it is rounded off to 52.
- Therefore, there is more scope for getting better scores than losing them.
