CAN I STUDY FOR FREE IN FRANCE? WHAT IS THE COST of STUDYING IN FRANCE

France is a metropolitan country which is located in the Western part of Europe. France is known for is high fashion, the Eiffel Tower, and the Louvre museum, and its people have a reputation for being snobbish but that’s not the case if you are very polite in your speech. France provides its citizens with a high quality of life and that very well shows in its education system as well.

France being a part of the European Economic Area (EEA) comes under the European Union (EU) has made higher education very affordable and technically free for all the students from EEA countries or internationals who have become a permanent resident but it is a different case altogether for the non-EEA students/the international students who have to pay an unfair amount as fees for their higher education. France has many private and public Universities. Public Universities here have charged minimal tuition fees. The French Government itself sets the admission fees for public universities making it possible for them to provide budget-friendly education, you have to pay basic administration fees which are significantly lesser if you are an EEA citizen whereas private universities are funded by private individuals and organizations which is why they need to charge tuition fees to have a surplus on their budget and fulfill their day to day operation cost. Even though public Universities provide free education, the quality of education still stays undiluted and the quality remains impeccable. People often have a standard image of a private university is very expensive however, studying in private universities in France will not cost you a fortune. The tuition fees even though not free are lower when compared to other public and private universities around the globe. The quality of education is very good in private universities and the minimum semester fees in private universities range somewhere between 5000 Euros to 40,000 Euros depending on the university and course of your choice, fees for Engineering courses are particularly high. Every student dreams globally acclaimed university. In hindsight, public universities and private universities in France are both very good, and going to one of them will be a personal choice, some of the public universities are among the best universities in the world. Mostly, international students choose public universities due to low cost and affordability. In any case, even though there are technically no tuition fees, the French government has declared to increase the number of scholarships for international students. They can get financial aid from the government to help them reduce their cost of living or tuition costs at the different universities in France.

Whether you go to a public or private university, one should remember that the student admission criteria in a French university are a little extensive. To get into a public university, it helps to keep a GPA of more than 7, complete a ‘Demande admission Préalable’ or DAP degree in the French language depending on some of the courses, and have overall good performance in the previous degree you did. Tests such as GRE, GMAT, or LSAT are essential for admission here. These are internationally used tests that ensure that applicants are prepared for the challenges of advanced study. Then, you have the liberty to choose your language of instruction the languages being English and French. Finally, you will need your essential documents such as your civil liability certificate, a copy of your European health card, proof of funds, a campus French authorization, etc.

While studying in the Universities here the number one thing one has to focus on is the living arrangements. The cost of living for students in France is around 850 to 1000 Euros per month on average. Prices differ significantly while moving between the large cities of France, for example, you would need more money for living and studying in Paris than you would in Niece. As a general rule, the cost of living is less in smaller cities than in big ones. The amount of money you spend also depends on how mindfully you spend; meaning that 1000 Euros per month is just a guideline you can also get along with less money or eventually have to spend more money in expensive cities. Most students live in a student hall of residence or share an apartment with other students. However, having one’s own apartment can get quite expensive.

Every student dreams of studying at a good University and France truly provides students with top-class education at an affordable cost. Some of the best courses offered by France are Gastronomy, International Economics, Psychology, Creative Arts, etc. The study abroad destination you choose to study in would matter a lot because French universities possess a global reputation and their students are highly demanded by various employers worldwide.

Hence France is a suitable study abroad destination for most students and any student can be sure to receive a quality education here.
