How is TOEFL scored, what is the minimum, average and maximum TOEFL score?
TOEFL scoring is point-based. 120 points are divided amongst 4 sections viz. Listening,
Speaking, Reading and Writing. So each section has 30 points allotted to it.
The listening section comprises 3 conversations with 5 questions each and 7 lectures with 6 questions each. The speaking section consists of 4 tasks wherein, the candidate is given topics to speak and expected to respond to the same. Responses are digitally recorded and then sent to ETS. The reading section contains 4 passages consisting of 10 questions. The writing section comprises 2 tasks wherein the candidate is asked to mention his views on a topic in writing and then summarize the same. Scoring ranges between 0 to 120 where 118-120 is considered as an expert, 94-109 is moderate. Any score below 94 is less than average.
