“Dress to impress” is a line far often heard by all of us since childhood and it still holds true to date. The way you are perceived by others before having an actual conversation is entirely dependent on the clothes you wear and the attitude you carry. No matter what others say appearances do matter in real life and fundamentally affect a person’s daily life from how he is spoken to while meeting others for the first time and also wearing good clothes helps form a better image of you in the mind of those who you interact with for the first time. One needn’t need to stay on top of every passing trend but it is crucial for a person to be aware of his/her personal style and how to mix and match different items of clothing according to the situation. It is of the utmost importance for college students to dress well. Dressing well boosts your confidence and also it commands respect. People in Europe now the importance of dressing well and pride themselves on doing so, if you are a student in Europe it’s time you step your fashion game up. Luckily we have got you covered, here are 10 tips to dress better:

1. Footwear:

Your sneakers complete your outfit like no other clothing item. According to me, every guy should have at least five types of shoes them being sports shoes, boots, formal shoes, a casual pair of sneakers, and some comfortable sliders/slippers. Having these shoes will complete all your outfits and will elevate your look. If you are on a budget then try having an athleisure sneaker, formal shoes, and boots. Switch between these choices to suit the occasion and try to buy a shoe with colors that look good with most items of clothing, colors such as Black, Navy Blue, Dark brown, etc.

2. Fit is king:

Just recently my friend asked me “ How does Tom Cruise look that good in a simple t-shirt and jeans?” the answer is in the fit. Fit is the most important thing when it comes to looking good in even the most simple clothes. Having a well-fitted pair of jeans and a t-shirt will instantly make you look good and more athletic.

3. Layering:

Take a look around your campus, all your peers will be wearing the same plain old t-shirts, hoodies, and pants. What will make you stand out is adding layers to your clothes, what I mean by layers is that instead of wearing a graphic t-shirt, wear a plain t-shirt and add a pullover or a jacket over it. This will make you look fashionable and will make you look leaner and more muscular than you are.

4. Quality over Quantity:

Make sure to always buy quality items. A wise man once said that “ the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten” and correct he was. Invest in good quality items like t-shirts, pants, jackets, etc and they should last you a long time and maintain their fit.

5. Accessories:

Accessories are a great way to jazz up your look and look like you have some fashion sense. Wear a watch, a bracelet, or anything else you like it doesn’t really matter what you wear, but wear something on your wrist. It just gives your outfit some more personality and sparks transforming you from a person who wears clothes just for the sake of it to a person who dresses to impress and has an intention behind his outfits. Personally, I like to wear a leather strap watch, they are classy attention grabbers conveying that your time is important and that you know how to manage your time.

6. Keep it simple:

Most people over complicate their outfits by adding too many clothing items, this just makes you stand out but not in a good way, imagine being known as “extra”. Try to go for subtle, simple, understated outfits and you’ll stand out in a good way.

7. Hang out with people who know fashion:

Your objective for hanging out with these people is not to become some fashion guru but it is to find out your own personal style and also know how to mix and match clothes to look more mature and stylish.

8. Own a well-fitting suit:

A well-fitted suit is like a Trump card in a man’s closet, girls like a man in a suit and wearing a suit gives you an extra boost of class and sophistication. It’s handsome, functional and it will never go out of style and a fancy pocket square will never hurt your chances.

9. Own a crisp white shirt:

A crisp white shirt is a must-have in a person’s closet. It’s arguably the most versatile piece of clothing a person can have on par with a plain black t-shirt. Girls can get away with an oversized white shirt but for men a slim-fit shirt always gets the job done.

10. Start wearing the cologne:

Every person should have at least two bottles of cologne one for casual wear and the other one for a special occasion. This will instantly make others think about you as a person who knows how to take care of themselves and is hygienic.

Key Takeaways

  1. Footwear matters: Owning versatile shoes like sneakers, boots, and formal shoes ensures you’re prepared for any occasion while maintaining a polished look.
  2. Fit is king: Well-fitted clothing, even simple jeans and t-shirts, can elevate your appearance significantly.
  3. Layering adds personality: Incorporating jackets, pullovers, or other layers into your outfit makes you look fashionable and enhances your physique.
  4. Quality over quantity: Investing in durable, high-quality clothing saves money in the long run and keeps your wardrobe looking sharp.
  5. Accessorize thoughtfully: Adding items like watches or bracelets gives your outfit personality and conveys intentionality in your style choices.
